ANKANG, CHINA, 2012
For a riverfront site along the Han Jiang River in Ankang, the studio has designed a housing complex of 3300 units. These are of mixed type and include residences for lower, middle, and upper income families. The site plan organizes the very long site along a central green park, which provides space for recreational and educational facilities protected from traffic. Commercial space is located continuously along the broad waterfront boulevard, now being built, to create a lively urban space with shops, restaurants, and other facilities to serve both the new complex and the extended neighborhood. The water's edge is lined by a new park which offers a variety of spaces and experiences, including floating gardens and restaurants, and a lengthy public promenade.
