This project is an extension of the campus of Hebei Polytechnic University and includes faculty housing, a hotel, an incubator and office facility, a large engineering laboratory, as well as commercial and recreational space.
We approached the scheme with a number of objectives. The rst was to extend the campus in a much denser pattern and, at the same time, to propose revisions to the circulation and landscape of the existing campus to create a clear sense of unity and place between old and new. In a wider urban context, the plan seeks to break down barriers between the campus and surrounding neighborhoods by careful extension of green areas, by offering shared commercial uses along its boundaries, by providing an inviting gateway to the pleasant, lower-density, campus environment, and by offering a break in the monotonous pattern of surrounding neighborhoods.
