Kyoto 2020

KYOTO, JAPAN, 1998

This project seeks to make a mixed-use neighborhood from what might simply have been single-use government precint by adding housing and commercial activity to the program of ministerial facilities and museums. The proposal is organized by a large circular figure that unites the disparate activities and is intended to accrete a range of variations, including a large public market in its interior. Cars are excluded from the center site.
